Não será exagerado dizer que Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, dos americanos Smashing Pumpkins, é um dos melhores albuns de sempre...
Este album duplo, de 1995, valeu ao grupo de Billy Corgan o primeiro lugar do Top na conceituada revista Billboard e 9 platinas... Foi também nomeado para 7 Grammy em 1997 e colocado na 29ª posição nos "Melhores Albuns de Sempre" pela revista Q, e figura ainda na lista dos "500 Melhores de Sempre" para a revista Rolling Stone...

O que o faz ser um GRANDE album?
Trata-se de um album conceptual, baseado no ciclo da Vida - nascimento, vida e morte -, e as suas músicas espelham-no na perfeição... Do imortal "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", passando por "Tonight Tonight", "Zero", até "1979", todo o album é de uma mestria incrível, notando-se nele o investimento colocado na sua criação... As músicas são poderosas e recheadas de significados profundos, e cada uma diz algo a alguém... Angustiados, relatos da terra de pesadelos de Billy Corgan!

The Smashing Pumpkins é uma das bandas de rock alternativo de maior sucesso da déc. de 90... nasceram em Chicago em 1988, e têm como seu líder e compositor Billy Corgan, uma mistura de talento e loucura, como podemos ver nos seus clips que pode dizer serem... bem... um bocadinho irreverentes... O seu álbum de maior sucesso até a data foi Siamese Dreams, lançado em 93...

Tiveram o seu pior momento no final do séc. XX devido a um dos problemas mais antigos do rock... drogas... assim a banda foi congelada em 2000... acabando por voltar em 2006, lançando no ano seguinte o fantástico álbum Zeitgeist, que participou com Doomsday Clock na banda sonora do filme Transformers de Michael Bay, com uma nova formação mas com Billy ainda a encabeçar as abóboras... não sendo um dos seus melhores álbuns da banda, foi um bom recomeço, e já se prevê o lançamento de um novo single ainda este ano... cá estaremos para ver...

Alta Voltagem no Rock 'n' Roll.....

Se me pedissem para listar as minhas bandas de rock preferidas, os AC/DC estariam, com toda a certeza, entre os 5 lugares cimeiros do Top..... Isto porque os AC/DC tocam Rock puro e duro, sem embelezamento ou elementos muito elaborados, sem terem que contar histórias muito profundas, sem fazerem mais nada senão tocarem, bem alto, músicas que puxam pelo nosso ouvido...

Há quem diga que as músicas deste grupo são todas muito semelhantes! Se o são, apenas na energia libertada pela guitarra de Angus Young ou na voz poderosa de Brian Johnson, porque o resto é puro prazer de tocar Rock como já hoje se faz pouco... Quem nunca ouviu temas imortais como Highway to Hell, Hells Bells (um tema a invocar a Morte de Bon Scott, o vocalista falecido em 1980), Hard as a Rock, You Shook Me All Night Long ou Thunderstruck e ficou imediatamente apanhado com os solos de guitarra? Ou quem nunca deu por si a pensar na simplicidade das letras que compõem as musicas, mas que ao mesmo tempo as tornam incrivelmente poderosas..?

Para mim, os AC/DC são verdadeiros monstros do Rock porque, com simplicidade, e sendo fieis a si mesmos e ao som que reproduziram desde as suas origens, há mais de 20 anos, mostram que é possível envolver toda e qualquer pessoa... Rick Rubim, inscreveu-os na lista dos "100 Imortais da Música", resumindo que "Não escrevem letras emocionais. Não tocam músicas emocionais. A emoção está toda na batida. E essa batida é intemporal...".

AC/DC e a verdadeira "High Voltage".....

AC ou Corrente Alternada refere-se a uma corrente eléctrica que tem uma magnitude e uma direcção que variam de forma cíclica... Refere-se à forma como a electricidade chega às habitações ou aos sinais de rádio que são transmitidos por fios eléctricos...
DC diz respeito à Corrente Directa, cuja direcção é constante, ou que tem cargas eléctricas que fluem na mesma direcção... É corrente produzida por exemplo, pelas pilhas ou células solares... É a corrente utilizada por aparelhos menores...

O nome da banda surgiu depois dos irmãos Angus e Malcom Young terem visto o sinal de AC/DC na máquina de costura da sua irmã Margaret... Um nome apropriado para um grupo cheio de energia para dispensar, ou não se chamasse o seu primeiro album, "High Voltage"..............

E não é que...

...Alguns grupos religiosos pensaram que AC/DC significava "Anti-Christ/Devil's Children"..? A sigla não é senão a abreviatura de "Alternating Current/Direct Current"...
... O tema "Highway to Hell" surgiu quando um reporter perguntou a Angus Young como era a vida na estrada..? O músico respondeu: "A fucking highway to Hell"...
... Em 1980, quando o vocalista dos AC/DC, Bon Scott, morreu devido ao consumo excessivo de alcool após uma noite de festa pesada, os restantes membros do grupo pensaram em ir cada um para seu lado..? O grupo continuaria com a chegada de Brian Johnson, anterior membro dos Geordie...
... Quando o baterista Phil Rudd abandonou a banda em 1983, o sucesso da banda começou a declinar e só começou a ser definitivamente recuperado quando este regressou em 1994..? O baterista tocaria para o album de 1995, Ballbreaker...
... O tema "Hells Bells" foi escrita para homenagear Bon Scott, o vocalista da banda então recentemente falecido..? O facto da capa do album ser preta é sinal de luto por Scott...
... Para a revista Rolling Stone, o album Back in Black está listado com o número 73 entre os "500 Melhores Albuns de Sempre"..? O canal VH1 tem-no sempre na contagem dos albuns "Definitivos"...
...Steve Young, outro dos irmãos, tomou o lugar de Malcom durante algum tempo, em finais da décade de 80, quando este se ausentou para recuperar do seu vicio pelo alcool..?
... Quando foram induzidos no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, em 2003, durante a sua actuação, Steven Tyler dos Aerosmith fez dueto com Brian Johnson..?
... Há uma rua em Melbourne com o nome AC/DC Lane, em sinal de homenagem à banda e à sua contribuição para a divulgação da música na Austrália..?
... Para o canal VH1, os AC/DC são o nº 4 na lista dos "100 Melhores Artistas de Hard Rock de Sempre", e o nº 7 na lista da MTV das "Melhores Bandas de Heavy Metal de Sempre"..?

AC/DC: Uma apresentação.....

Uma das melhores bandas de Rock de sempre, os AC/DC formaram-se como grupo em 1973, em Sidney, pela iniciativa dos irmãos Angus e Malcom Young... Em 1975, por alturas do album High Voltage, da sua formação faziam parte o vocalista Bon Scott, o baixista Mark Evans, e o baterista Phil Rudd... Nesta altura, já Angus vestia o seu uniforme de menino da Escola, que se tornou imagem de marca da banda... Em 1976 faziam as primeiras partes dos concertos de gente como os Aerosmith e os Kiss... Evans foi substituido por Cliff Williams em 1977... Em 1979, o album Highway to Hell chegou a nº 17, no Top 100 americano... O vocalista Bon Scott morreria em 1980, vitima do alcool que consumiu de forma exagerada... Brian Johnson foi o seu sucessor, provindo da banda Geordie, e ainda hoje se mantém como vocalista do grupo... O album Back in Black surgiria pouco tempo depois, contendo os temas "Hell's Bells" e "You Shook Me All Night Long", atingindo a platina no ano seguinte, o lugar nº 1 no Top Britânico e nº 4 no Americano, onde se tornou o 5º album mais vendido de sempre (131 semanas na tabela dos mais vendidos!!!)... Phil Rudd foi substituido por Simon Wright em inicios da década de 80... Em 1988, o grupo entrava para o Hall of Fame Australiano... O album Lock Up the Wolves, com o exito "Thunderstruck", surgiu em 1990 e foi multi-platinado... Stiff Upper Lip, de 2000, teve consideração positiva por parte da crítica e do público... Em 2003, a banda entrou, merecidamente, para o Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...

Ainda estamos à espera do novo album, que teima em nunca chegar... Mas o grupo já fez saber que está a produzir novo trabalho... Venha ele..................

Album duplo e concerto em cinema.....

Album duplo gravado ao vivo em Paris, em Dezembro de 1979. Foi também um concerto levado aos cinemas, que contém as actuações ao vivo da banda e entrevistas aos seus membros. Um dos seus pontos altos é ver Angus Young a partir uma das cordas da guitarra durante o solo de "Whole Lotta Rosie"...
Para quem gosta destes monstros do Rock, é um filme a ver, de preferência, com o som muito alto.........
